Ambient 2022-01-21 Editorial Review
**** The latest album by Biosphere marks a notable excursion back into the use of vintage analogue synths and drum machines, reminiscent of the sounds prevalent in the 1980s. While the album initially evokes mixed feelings, particularly with what some perceive as nostalgia for less favorable synth-pop sounds, many listeners find that it quickly transitions into more familiar territory by the time they reach the third track, "Nightshift." This turning point seems to resonate with long-time fans who appreciate the ambient and soothing nature of Biosphere's music, diverging from mere retro callbacks to offer fresh compositions. Listeners are treated to an expansive soundscape filled with layered pads and analogue sequences, which many describe as a multi-dimensional musical journey that invites deep engagement. Tracks transition fluidly into one another, allowing for a cohesive experience that encourages listeners to immerse themselves fully—it's an album that demands attention rather than serving merely as background noise. Several reviews highlight the rhythmic elements integrated into the ambient framework, providing a balance of relaxation and engagement that appeals to a broad audience looking to unwind. The crunchiness of the sound quality also receives accolades, suggesting a well-crafted production that enhances the listening experience. While thoughts on aesthetics vary, with some wishing for more detailed packaging, the greater emphasis lies on the deep, atmospheric quality of the music. Overall, this collection reaffirms Biosphere's status as a significant contributor to the ambient electronic genre, reflecting a commitment to innovation while gracefully traversing the nostalgic landscapes of sound. **
