Deadly Virtues [Blu-ray]

**Editorial Review of "Deadly Virtues"** "Deadly Virtues" presents itself as a gripping entry into the realm of psychological thriller and horror. Directed by Ate De Jong, the film intricately weaves a narrative that tests the boundaries between eroticism and terror, often forcing viewers to confront discomforting themes. The film centers around an intruder who disrupts a couple's intimate moment, leading to a complex interplay of power, morality, and unexpected relationships. Critics have praised the film for its ability to keep audiences guessing with its unfurling tension and an excellent conclusion that resonates long after the credits roll. The characters, particularly the intruder and the husband, are notably well-developed, which allows viewers to engage deeply with their moral dilemmas and motivations. The subtext throughout the film is dark and rich, inviting reflection on deeper societal issues while maintaining a gripping storyline. However, "Deadly Virtues" does face criticism. Some moments lean into clichéd aspects of the erotic horror subgenre, causing the narrative to occasionally lag in energy and intensity. Viewers have pointed out that while the film begins fervently, it can slow in its pacing through the middle, which may detract from the overall experience for some. The ending, although unexpected, has divided opinions with some wishing for a different resolution to the narrative’s climax, indicating a lack of cohesion in the storytelling. Despite these shortcomings, many viewers feel the film excels in exploring challenging themes of morality and relationships, making it a worthy watch, particularly for audiences interested in innovative takes on horror. While expectations regarding explicit content may need to be adjusted based on promotional materials, the overall reception suggests that "Deadly Virtues" successfully carves out a poignant space in modern cult horror. **
