Drama Editorial Review
The Rope (1948) is a black and white Hitchcock film that has been faithfully restored and has received excellent reviews. The film crew and actors give personal insights and clarity into this historical landmark of Hollywood films. It is a must-see for all Hitchcock fans. The film is like a stage play that carefully observes the unities of time, place, and action, with the audience knowing much more about what's going on than most of the characters. The dialogues touched on some themes ahead of its time, including a queer relationship. The movie might not be a cinema masterpiece, but it certainly scores as a theatrical curiosity worthy of serious attention and lively debate. The long takes and experimental style for Hitchcock's time make it worth seeing at least once.
