The DigiTech Automatic Drum Machine Pedal Multi Effect Processor (SDRUM-U) is a versatile and easy-to-use drum machine pedal that offers excellent sound quality. It can be programmed using a guitar and allows for modification of drum sounds using the on-board controls. While there is a learning curve to using the SDRUM, it is worth the time investment as it produces high-quality drum sounds. It may be more challenging to teach it a rhythm by strumming a guitar, but as a keys player, using just the kick and snare pads is sufficient. One design flaw is the lack of a metronome on the first try when programming an open part or song with the pads. However, intentionally screwing up the first try results in a metronome being provided on the second attempt, making it easier to nail the desired beat. The SDRUM quantizes, but not too strictly, allowing for some flexibility in the rhythm. This may be frustrating at first, but it can also provide a unique and quirky beat that jazz players and songwriters may appreciate. One complaint about the SDRUM is a build-related issue. The Song button is loose and requires a sharp and quick jab to activate it, which can be inconvenient. In terms of live performances, once the SDRUM is mastered, it can be a useful tool. However, it is recommended to keep the programming simple to avoid mistakes on stage.
