What is the sensor size of the Sony Alpha FX3 ILME-FX3?

The Sony Alpha FX3 ILME-FX3 features a full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor, which measures approximately 35.9 x 24.0 mm. This large sensor size is significant as it allows for enhanced light capture, resulting in improved low-light performance and a wider dynamic range. The full-frame format is particularly advantageous for cinematic production, giving filmmakers the ability to achieve that desired shallow depth of field and stunning background blur. Whether you're filming a documentary or a short film, this sensor can help deliver breathtaking visuals.

Can the Sony Alpha FX3 record 4K video?

Yes, the Sony Alpha FX3 can record 4K video at various frame rates including up to 120 fps. This capability allows filmmakers to create stunning slow-motion effects while maintaining high resolution. Furthermore, the camera supports 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording and offers multiple codecs, tailoring to various production needs. If you are shooting a music video or engaging content for social media, the advanced video recording options make the FX3 a versatile tool for creators.

What types of lenses are compatible with the FX3?

The Sony Alpha FX3 is compatible with Sony E-mount lenses, which include a wide range of options from wide-angle to telephoto, making it a versatile choice for different filming scenarios. With an extensive selection of both native lenses and third-party options available, you can customize your gear based on the needs of your project. If you're working on a feature film or capturing landscapes for travel vlogs, the FX3's adaptability with lenses ensures creative flexibility.

Does the FX3 have in-body image stabilization?

Yes, the Sony Alpha FX3 includes in-body image stabilization (IBIS), which significantly reduces camera shake during handheld shooting. This feature is crucial for filmmakers who work in dynamic environments or when shooting moving subjects. With IBIS, you can achieve smooth and stable footage without the need for gimbals or stabilizers, making it perfect for run-and-gun shooting or documentaries that require agility and speed.

Is the FX3 suitable for live streaming?

Absolutely, the Sony Alpha FX3 is well-suited for live streaming applications. It features clean HDMI output, allowing you to connect to external recorders and streaming devices seamlessly. Additionally, the camera's built-in audio inputs and robust video quality make it ideal for professional live events or virtual conferences. Whether you're hosting a live Q&A session or streaming a concert, the FX3 can elevate your broadcast with high-quality visuals and sound.

What are the autofocus capabilities of the FX3?

The FX3 boasts advanced Fast Hybrid AF technology, featuring 759 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection autofocus points. This high-speed autofocus system improves tracking of moving subjects, essential for busy scenes or action sequences. With its impressive autofocus performance, creators can focus on composing shots instead of manually adjusting focus. This advantage is particularly useful for wildlife filmmaking or sports events, ensuring sharp and precise focus throughout the action.

What connectivity options does the FX3 offer?

The Sony Alpha FX3 includes numerous connectivity options, including USB-C, HDMI, and a headphone/microphone jack. These features enhance its versatility, allowing integration with external devices such as microphones, headphones for audio monitoring, and external storage for extended recording sessions. If you are conducting interviews or collaborating on a multi-camera shoot, these connectivity options enable seamless workflow and professional-grade production quality.

What is the battery life of the FX3?

The Sony Alpha FX3 is equipped with the NP-FZ100 battery, providing a notable battery life that supports extended shooting sessions. Depending on your usage and settings, you can expect several hours of continuous recording, making it ideal for long shoots such as documentaries or events. Additionally, the camera has a USB-C port that allows for power delivery, which can help during longer filming days without needing to frequently change batteries.

Can the FX3 be controlled remotely?

Yes, the Sony Alpha FX3 supports remote control via compatible smartphone apps and accessories. Using the Sony Imaging Edge Mobile app, you can adjust camera settings, monitor footage, and trigger recording remotely, which is particularly useful for solo filmmakers.
